Each of oval form with beaded rim and plain open handles, the slightly domed cover surmounted by a baluster wood finial, engraved on cover with two coats-of-arms upon drapery mantling and two others with laurel garlands, marked under bases and on covers, also with museum accession number 48.1.21a,b and 48.1.22--length over handles 15in.(38cm.)

Lot Essay

The arms are those of:
Poulett impaling those of Popham, as borne by John, 3rd Baron Poulett who married, in 1666, Essex, eldest daughter of Alexander Popham of Littlecote and died in 1679.
Seymour impaling those of Popham, as borne by William Seymour, 2nd son of Sir Edward Seymour, 4th Baronet who married, in 1674, Letitia, daughter of Alexander Popham.
Barkeley impaling those of Seymour, as borne by William Barkeley of Pylle, who married, in 1707, Anne, eldest daughter of Sir Edward Seymour, 4th Baronet.
