The moulded rim painted with panels of animal fable vignettes in enamel colours, the centers with scattered spring blooms and sprigs and occasional butterflies or insects (tiny chips)--16¾in. (42.5cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The moulded border pattern and fable-decorated reserves found on this platter are features of the 'Warren Hastings' pattern, after a very large service once owned by the famous politician and sold with his effects in 1818.
