TWO RENAISSANCE GOLD-MOUNTED AGATE CAMEOS

One in pale pink agate carved in high relief with the head of a bearded male, one in greyish-brown agate with a bearded and laureate male profile, the openwork frames with flowers, one with brooch-pin reverse, both with flattened openwork gold chains, the cameos late 16th/early 17th Century, the mounts later, each 5.0cm. overall height

Provenance: The cameos are believed to have survived the fire in Smyrna in 1922 (2)
