1951 YANKEES AND GIANTS TEAM BALLS
As a reporter for the New York Mirror, Mr. Lewin covered the 1951 New York baseball season. Following the miracle run by the New York Giants, he covered the World Series between them and the Yankees. He obtained a team-signed game ball from each team and later had the Mirror art department print the year and team on each ball. The Yankees ball features Joe DiMaggio's signature on the sweet spot and a total of twenty-eight signatures including rookie Mickey Mantle. The Giants ball has a faint Leo Durocker on the sweet spot and a total of twenty-six signatures including rookie Willie Mays and Monte Irvin, Bobby Thompson, Sal Maglie, Hank Thompson and Al Dark. This is the only known set of team-signed game-used baseballs from this historic World Series. Both baseballs show game use and are in otherwise excellent condition. (2)
