SMITH, E. BOYD. "From Sea to Shining Sea." Original watercolor and ink drawing for the title page vignette for The Story of Our Country, published New York, [1920]. 2 5/8 x 12 in. (6.7 x 30.5 cm.) image size; matted -- "Bennington and Bedford Flags." Original pen and ink drawing (study?) for vignette on List of Colored Plates page for The Story of Our Country. 4 1/8 x 12 1/8 (10.5 x 30.7 cm.); matted. This illustration was apparently not used in the published book. Smith's notations indicate that the flag on the left is the Bennington flag having 13 stars and the number "'76" and that the Bedford flag with the Latin inscription "vince aut morire" was carried at Concord. He indicates this flag is still in existence. (3)
