"...In the struggle for supremacy on the Great Lakes, Perry built a fleet of ships at Erie...as soon as he found the English fleet he attacked it...until when the 'Lawrence' had become useless for further fighting, he took his flag...and, under fire, had himself rowed to the 'Niagara'...
