Lot Essay

The critic Lewis Gannett was a longtime supporter and friend of Steinbeck who wrote the introductions for the second edition of Cup of Gold and The Portable Steinbeck, and his blurbs appear on many of the dust jackets to Steinbeck's books (including this one). Laid in this volume is a typed certificate signed by Michael Gannett and bookseller Bradford Morrow stating that this book comes from Lewis Gannett's library and was part of his Steinbeck archive. An important association copy.
