AN EDWARDIAN LARGE SILVER COVERED EWER, maker's mark of The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Co., London, 1901, the compressed spherical body with long spreading neck on raised circular base, the base chased and engraved with flowers divided above by ruffled shell, the body two sides with vacant foliate scroll enclosed shaped oval cartouche, flanked by out reaching truncated winged figures, the lower body below cartouche chased with grotesque mask, the front applied with cast lioness' mask, the ground chased and engraved with flowers, foliage and rocaille on matted ground, the neck with floral festoon straps, guilloche and acanthus bands above, the spout with cartouche and floral sprays, with part foliate scroll handle with insulators and with mechanism for the hinged partly domed decorated cover, topped by open foliate scroll finial--18in. (45.7cm.) high, gross weight 80.5oz.
