The 1954 Maserati 250F of Prince Birabongse Bhanubandh of Thailand, a painted tinplate model with rubber tyres, copper exhaust pipes and cockpit with seat, steering wheel and instruments, the underside inscribed Conti, M. - 13½in long

The Prince, known in the motor racing world simply as B. Bira was associated with Maserati throughout his long and illustrious racing career. Not suprisingly he was one of the first customers for the legendary Maserati 250F, and he took possession of his new car in 1954, painted blue and yellow, the colours of Siam.

He raced the car throughout 1954 and the following winter took it to New Zealand where he won the Grand Prix in early January. He and the car returned to Europe and took part in a few events, but by the end of May, Bira decided to retire from motor racing, and he sold his 250F to Horace Gould.

B. Bira's successes with his 250F, chassis no. 2504:

1954 - 1st Frontières GP ("interim" car - the engine of 2504 was
initially fitted in another body)
2nd Rouen GP
2nd Pescara GP

1955 - 1st New Zealand Grand Prix
3rd International Trophy Silverstone
