The 280SE 3.5-litre Convertible is one of the rarest, most sought after and collectable of all V8 Mercedes. Only 1,232 genuine convertibles were produced between 1969 and 1971. Since then many of the less desirable coupes have been 'cut' and converted. When the 280SE 3.5 was produced it was by no means inexpensive with a price tag of approximately $14,000 in 1970. Standard equipment included leather interior, rosewood fascia, air conditioning, radio and automatic transmission. The relatively high price, however, was reflective of the quality and expense taken in producing the car. For example, all the trim was chrome covered brass and the rosewood interiors were carefully matched and fitted with hundreds of tiny screws. The very efficiant Daimler-Benz factory was able to produce only 13 per week!

This very original car is with its third or fourth owner sonce new and has been in its current ownership since 1981. It has been repainted once some time ago, but the bodywork is still described as being in excellent condition. It runs superbly and only the front leather seats are showing signs of wear. The special equipment includes cruise control, Becker stereo and Nardi steering wheel.
