CY YOUNG AWARD CREATION DOCUMENTS
In 1956 the Baseball Writers Association of America created the Cy Young award to honor the outstanding pitcher in the major leagues. These papers document the creation of the award and include the following: the resolution by the Writers Association; a memorandum to the officers the creation of the award to honor the recently deceased Cy Young; a memorandum to the officers concerning the proposed voting; of a letter to Frick from the secretary of the association; a memorandum to officers explaining the proposal in detail; a memorandum regarding potential members of the committee to select the winners; final committee and instructions for voting. All items are original carbon copies from the files of Ken Smith, then the secretary of the Writers Association. (11)
