A CHIPPENDALE WALNUT SECRETARY BOOKCASE, Newport, Rhode Island, 1760-1780, In two parts: the upper section with molded swan's -neck pediment centering a flaming urn finial above a pair of glazed doors enclosing an interior fitted with two shelves; the lower section with hinged slant-lid opening to a fitted interior with slide-lid writing compartment and central shell carved prospect door enclosing three concave blocked drawers flanked on either side by two shell carved valanced drawers over two pigeonholes above a convex blocked drawer flanked by a shell carved drawer above two drawers, the case fitted with four graduated long drawers over a molded base, on cabriole legs with claw-and-ball feet (feet replaced)--91½in. high, 40¾in. wide, 23½in. deep
