JOE MANEELY
2-Gun Western No. 4, 1956 Original cover art. Joe Maneely was a highly innovative and talented artist whose speed set him apart from his peers. Maneely, the top artist at Atlas/Marvel, was able to offer Stan Lee several versions of covers or concepts in a single day. Lee still considers him to be one of the greatest artists he has ever worked with. Maneely's life came to a tragic end when at age 32 he was killed in a commuter train accident. In 1993, the first examples of Maneely's art were discovered and sold at Christie's. The two examples offered here are the last known, pen and ink on paper--20 x 13½ inches.
