Each piece with the arms of Leighton of Loton, Shropshire, the twisted vine handles terminating in berry sprigs and picked out in underglaze blue, diaper trellis underglaze blue borders edged in overglaze blue spearhead (one cover with tiny chip, one stand with several tiny frits, one body with glaze crack interior, some coats with rubbing to gilt) --8½in. Howard illustrates a plate from this service, op. cit., p. 716, and suggests that it was made for the fifth Baronet, Sir Robert Leighton, just before he succeeded to the title.
