London: Printed for Taylor and Hessey, 1822. 12mo, original drab blue boards, uncut, skilfully tightened in binding, printed paper spine label and advertisement leaf at end lacking, wear to edges, small tear in half-title and title-page professionally mended, blue protective cloth dust jacket. FIRST EDITION of the first part of this work (the whole not appearing until 1850), with the half-title. Tinker 817; Greenwald, "High"-spots of Drug Literature 14. "If opium-eating be a sensual pleasure...I have indulged in it to an excess, not yet recorded of any other man..." (Confessions, p. 4).
