Martin Reisner came to America, around 1848, from Russia where he had been in charge of scene painting at the Imperial Theatre in St. Petersburg. From that time on, he exhibited at the National Academy of Brooklyn and the Pennsylvania Academy of Germantown and Philadelphia, where his panorama of Taylor's campaigns in Mexico received recognition.
