GILDA, 1946
A costume sketch by Jean Louis for Rita Hayworth in Gilda. The infamous strapless black dress was worn by Hayworth while singing "Put The Blame on Mame"; Louis' design caused great discussions as to how the dress stayed up while Hayworth threw her arms into the air and danced. The front view dress sketch also features a smaller rear view to the right; in pen to the left of the dress skirt- soft satin bodice and bow- double paced satin long satin gloves. In black felt pen Jean Louis; below the designer's signature in blue ink Rita Hayworth - "Gilda"; pencil, pen and ink on paper--28 3/4 x 23 3/4 in.--framed and matted.
