Lot Essay

King Alfonso XIII succeeded posthumously to the Spanish throne following the death of his father Alfonso XII in 1886. On the day of his wedding to Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg, May 31, 1906 there was an unsuccessful attempt on his life. In 1931 he was forced to leave Spain having lost the support of the Army and died 10 years later.
