Lot Essay
Kim Ki-Chang was born in Seoul and studied painting under Kim Eun-Ho (1892-1979). His work won first prize at the "Cho Sun" art exhibition in the late 1930's. Kim Ki-Chang and his wife, Park Rae-Hyun (b. 1920), also a painter, exhibited their work together at the East-West Cultural Center in Hawaii in 1964, and at the Obelisque Gallery in Washington, D.C. in 1965, and at the Allentown Museum in Pennsylvania in 1971.
In 1970 Kim Ki-Chang had a one-person exhibit at the New York Cultural Center in Manhattan, and in 1971 he won the March 1st Cultural Award in Korea. He participated in the exhibition entitled "France and Korea, Modern Art", sponsored by the French Cultural Center in Seoul in 1971. From 1972-74 he taught painting at Soo Do University in Seoul.
