1929 MORGAN THREE-WHEELER AERO STYLE SPORTS TWO SEATER
Registration No. OF 2530
Chassis No. 1832A
Engine No.12551
Red with black interior
Engine: water-cooled V twin J.A.P., c.1,000cc; Gearbox: two speed chain drive; Brakes: three wheel drum; Suspension: front, independent sliding pillar, rear, quarter elliptic. Right hand drive.
H F S Morgan produced the first of his three wheeler cars in 1910, the Runabout, a single seater, later responding to customer demand by producing a two seater version. The Grand Prix, Aero and Super Sports model followed and achieved an enthusiastic following and several proprietary engines were available including Blackburne, J.A.P., Matchless and Anzani.
OF 2530 left the works in July 1929 and was the Aero model fitted with an Anzani engine. In 1963 the present owner acquired the vehicle along with a later Aero De Luxe (from 1931) both vehicles were bought in a dismantled state. During the late 1960s OF 2530 was restored to its present condition and it is quite conceivable some parts from the two cars became mixed up. While the J.A.P. side valve water-cooled engine is not orignal to the vehicle it appears to date from around 1926 and was commonly found on many Morgans. The body may be original, however the feature of doors are not to factory specification and perhaps the body was built in the Aero "style". The rolling chassis, radiator and engine all seem correct as does the steering column.
This Aero style Morgan is not in running condition and has been on display in a motoring museum for many years. It should provide a relatively cheap way of entering the vintage Morgan motoring scene. There is an enthusiastic and helpful Three Wheeler Club who undoubtedly could help with advice and spares. It comes with both a modern V5 and old style log book.
