A LARGE BRONZE KORO AND COVER, MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), of ovoid form resting on a base of four elephant and tongue supports in turn resting on a shaped lotiform plinth cast with side panels of birds, the vessel surmounted by a high and elaborately cast cover; the basin cast with two handles in the form of gnarled pine branches cast with the talons of detachable birds (now missing), and with ogival panels of birds set on a ground of leiwen and chrysanthemum florets, the domed cover cast with further leiwen studded with paulownia sprays below a pierced band of cranes and clouds, the top cast with a dragon and vulture on tall rocks--44 in. high
