A PAIR OF SUPERB GEORGE II SILVER SOUP TUREENS, COVERS AND LINERS
STERLING STANDARD, LONDON, 1750, MAKER'S MARK OF PAUL DE LAMERIE (HARE, NO. 5)
Of shaped oval form, each raised on four scroll feet headed by goat heads issuing from stylized drapery, each side applied with scrolls below a gadrooned rim with lobes at intervals, with two foliate scroll and ribbed handles issuing from foliage and shells, the domed covers chased with bands of ovolo with shells and panels of fishscale at intervals, the center elaborately chased with scrolls and rocaille enclosing fishscale, with batswing and lion masks, surmounted by cast openwork finials in the form of flowerheads, each with shaped oval removable liner, the sides engraved with a Baron's armorials, the covers and liners with a crest and Baron's coronet, fully marked under bases, on cover flanges and on liners, the tureens and liners numbered 1 and 2 and with scratch weights87=2, 87=7, 16=3and 16=3 respectively-- length over handles 14in.
