Oval, raised on four gadrooned scroll feet, with gadrooned rim and gadrooned acanthus-clad side handles, the field engraved with a coat-of-arms within an architectural cartouche with reeded trelliswork enclosing classical maiden's heads within laurel swags and within foliate scrolls enclosing a winged and bearded mask below and a shell above and from which issue similar bearded masks, marked on reverse--length over handles--30in. Lot Essay

The arms are those of Sneyd impaling those of Bagot, as borne by Walter Sneyd of Keele Hall, born in 1752. He married in 1786 Louisa, daughter of William, Lord Bagot. he was M.P. for Castle Rising and High Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1814. He died in 1829.
