Each of campana form, on spreading fluted circular foot, the lower body chased with lobes and applied above with a band of scrolling foliage, the leaf-clad reeded handles issuing from classical masks, the domed circular covers with chased flutes and surmounted by a foliate finial, the covers in two parts, the outer rims forming collars which support the plated cylindrical liners for conversion to wine coolers, one side engraved with a coat of arms, the other with a crest, both within foliate cartouches, marked near rims and on covers--14 in. high

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Hanning of Dillington House, Somerset, impaling those of Lee, of Pinhoe, Devon, as borne by William Hanning, son of John Hanning. He married in 1800 Harriett, daughter of Edward Lee and had, among other issue, a son John who assumed the surname of Lee in 1822 in accordance with the will of his uncle, Major Lee of Orleigh Court, Bideford.
