On shaped triangular base, surmounted by three acanthus supports, each mounted with a heraldic figural supporter of a wolf, the base supporting a cut glass bowl, the base engraved with a Duke's armorials, marked on base, supports, wolves and rim also stamped STORR & MORTIMER--10 1/8 in. (25.7 cm.) high

Lot Essay

The arms are those of George, 2nd Duke of Sutherland, born in 1786 who succeeded to the Dukedom on the death of his father in 1833. He had married in 1823 Harriet, daughter of George, Earl of Carlisle, who was subsequently Mistress of the Robes to Queen Victoria. He died in 1861
