These five paintings were created as one work by the artist circa 1957 for the entrance hall of Freddy Wolff's Brussels apartment. They were hung around the oval room with the horizons aligned in the order in which they are illustrated here.

David Sylvester will include this painting in his forthcoming René Magritte catalogue raisonné (vol. III) to be published in July, 1993.
