Of oval form, the body decorated with four notched spirals, the handles carved as heads with pearl-shell inlay eyes, pierced behind each head for suspension, inscribed on the inside Neu Seeland 13817, dark brown patina.

Lot Essay

The number and inscription on the inside of this box would indicate that it had formerly been part of the Dresden Museum property. It was acquiredby Colonel Major General Horacio Gordon Robley in 1864-66.
