Georges Marlier lists the first picture as a non identifiable proverb and records two other versions of the subject. The second picture he records under the Proverb 'Le Gardien d'Oies' and notes that the composition derives from a drawing by Pieter Brueghel the Elder in the Cabinet des Estampes, Dresden. For this composition he lists three other versions, (for both see G. Marlier, Pierre Brueghel le Jeune, 1969, p. 166, no. 28 and pp. 159-60, no. 20)
