In a letter dated April 16, 1991, with regard to the present lot, Professor George Knox notes that "the sheer quality of it suggests that it could very well be by Piazzatta himself" and suggests that it is a late work of the forties, comparable with the head of the Baptist in the Padua altarpiece, and the S. Gaetano Thiene at Rovigo
