With arched cartouche-shaped back, padded scroll arms and serpentine seat within a scrolling foliate-carved frame enhanced with shells and fruiting finials above a conforming similarly carved seat rail and cabriole legs headed by rocaille, ending in scroll toes, fitted with light green floral silk (regilt)-28.5in. (72cm.) wide, 69in. (175cm.) long

The fruiting grenadine enclosed in foliage appears repeatedly on work by the Cresson family of menuisiers. A very similarly carved caned fauteuil is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Francais du XVIII Siècle, 1989, p. 208, fig. B.
