While undoubtedly related to the popular animalier groups exemplified by Barye's work, the present hunting scene is a romanticized version of those sometimes violently realistic subjects. Conceived with a pendant group of Diane de Poitiers (thought to be François I's mistress) hunting a stag, this group is a beautifully detailed example of the style troubadour.
