The sides well-carved in high relief with scenes of scholars in a mountainous retreat, two conversing on a rocky outcrop in a clearing, two with an attendant traversing a ledge by a stream, a pavilion nestled amidst the craggy rocks, all interspersed with various trees, including two large gnarled tree trunks forming a double handle with pine boughs spilling into the interior, all supported on an oval foot with the incised decoration of the stream continued on the base, of rich reddish-brown tone, minor chips, age cracks--5in. (12.7cm.) high
