A RARE GREEN DUAN INKSTONE BOTTLE
YUZHI MARK, QIANLONG

Of flattened rounded shape, carved in low relief on one side with confronted archaistic chilong forming the character long (dragon), and a two-line poem and imperial mark bordered by two further dragons on the other, divided by mask and ring handles, the stone of attractive teadust-green tone with paler inclusions, traces of black pigment to outlines, minute chips

Lot Essay

The poem describes the smooth, silky quality of duan stone as found in Duanxi, and is identical to the script on a bottle illustrated in Chinese Snuff Bottles from the Douglas Johnston and Other Collections, The Chinese Porcelain Co., Catalogue, col. pl. 62
