FOUR PARIS (DARTE) GOLD-GROUND PLATES, the centres painted with classical figures, one with a lady and a putto walking in a landscape inscribed on the reverse L'esprit et la Sagesse., another with Calpurine and Cesar standing before a stone lion in a classical building inscribed on the reverse Calpurine femme de Cesar lui disant de ne point sortie (le jour qu'il fut assassiné.), another with a maiden wearing a fur pelt and seated beside Cupid and a putto inscribed on the reverse La Force., and another with a seated lady holding a palm and a bridle beside two putti incribed on the reverse La Prudence. within gilt ground borders variously painted en grisaille with lion's masks, garlands, vases, cornucopiae martial trophies and winged masks (one with slight hair crack and another with very minor rubbing to rim, very slight scratching), iron-red stencilled DARTE/FRERES/A PARIS, one with incised T, circa 1820
