THREE SYRIAN CYLINDER SEALS
CIRCA 2700 2200 B.C.
One of white serpentine engaved in two registers, above with an armed figure next to a lion attacking an antelope, drill holes and a star in the field, below with a bird's head, laden boat, pots, and two animal heads, 18 x 7 mm, one of yellow-white marble engraved a lion attacking an antelope, with a kilted figure on eithe side driving a spear into the animal's hind quarters, a scorpion and branch in the field, 19 x 8 mm, and one of black marble engraved with a bull man grasping the necks of two antelope, with parallel lines filled with herringbone between four compartments filled with a cross and lion's head above, a star and lion's head below, a star and fish within the lines, 22 x 12 mm (3)
