FOUR OLD BABYLONIAN CYLINDER SEALS
CIRCA 1850-1700 B.C.
One of hematite engraved with a suppliant goddess facing a figure with attendant, a lion-griffin behind the goddess, star disc and crescent in the sky, a large chip in the center, 19 x 10 mm, one of hematite engraved with a standing suppliant goddess on either side of a three column inscription which reads: "Kurum, son of Abni-Sin, servant of Amurru," 29 x 15 mm, one of mottled brown agate, similar to the last, with a three column inscription which reads: "Abum-waqar, son of Yasih-il, serant of Ninsun," 29 x 15 mm, and one of hematite engraved with two deities and a suppliant goddess facing a statue of a worshiper carrying an animal, a hero in combat with a bull-man behind the goddess, a small figure, rampant antelope and rosette in the field, a recumbent bull, star disc and crescent and head-stand in the sky, 25 x 12 mm (4)
