FIVE SYRIAN CYLINDER SEALS
CIRCA 1920-1840 B.C.
One of hematite engraved with a female figure with one arm raised before a head standard with a bird perched on it and a vessel on a stand, behind her are a half-kneeling figure holding a staff and a rampant antelope, a hand or flaming stand in the field, triangular object in the sky, 13 x 7 mm, one of gray marble engraved with two standing figures before a seated figure holding a bird, an elongated rhomb in the field, a double-headed standard as the teminal, 17 x 11 mm, one of hematite engraved with a figure holding an animal offering in front of a seated deity holding a cup, two standing figures behind the first, a ball staff and animal in the field, crescent in the sky, rampant antelope as the terminal, 21 x 14 mm, one of hematite engraved with a suppliant goddess and a figure standing before two crossed animals, a third figure with crossed arms behind them, a ball staff in the field, human head and a vessel in the sky, 20 x 12 mm, and one of hemaitite engraved with a deity and a figure standing on either side of two crossed figures, with two opposite facing lions above and below a plaited pattern enclosed in two horizontal lines, 19 x 10 mm (5)
