Folio, 542 x 340 mm., 21 3/8 x 13 3/8 in., on guards, contemporary calf over pasteboard, edges stained red, badly worn, ten-inch tear to map of Asia, maps of ancient Greece and northern Greece each with a small patched hole to border, map 17 (Duchy of Piedmont) adhered to following map and torn at adhesion, minor internal tears or fold separations to about 31 maps, some wormholes and a few marginal tears and stains, about 10 maps creased, map of German empire detached, a few maps discolored at folds from acidic guards.
Engraved allegorical title, 4 leaves letterpress introduction in Latin and German including index listing 50 maps, engraved head-pieces, and 61 engraved mapsheets: twin celestial hemispherical chart, astronomical calendar, table of the winds, and 58 maps with pictorial cartouches, including world map, the four continents, and 53 regional maps, all but three (Russian Empire, Turkish Empire, and the Crimea) of Europe, of which six with inset city views, one map signed by Tobias Conrad Lotter, the rest by Seutter, two maps dated 1729 and 1744, the rest undated, ENGRAVED TITLE AND CELESTIAL CHART FULLY COLORED, THE MAPS FULLY OR PARTIALLY COLORED, BY A CONTEMPORARY HAND, the cartouches uncolored, a smaller double-page map by Andreas Ehrman, "Universal Historie auf der Land-Karten", [after 1733], pasted down to map 35, a double-page engraved table of distances, "Tabula Poliometrica Germaniae ac...Europae" (Regensburg: Emerich Felix Bader, [n.d.]) pasted down to map of Saxony, both uncolored.
