HENRY, PATRICK, Virginia statesman, patriot. Autograph letter signed ("P. Henry") to William Giles "Att[orne]y at Law," P[rince] Edward [Virginia], 24 May 1788. One page, 4to, integral address leaf with panel in Henry's hand. Fine condition.

Henry had retired as Governor of Virginia two years earlier due to poor health, maintained an active legal practice. The present letter asks a favor of a local attorney in connection with a suit he is bringing there. "Being employed to prosecute for Stapleton Sheeble in his suit vs. Sheeble & at[torney], & hearing no Bill has been filed, I have hastily & upon slight Information taken the Liberty to prepare one which will be handed by Mr. Ransome. He thinks one or two of the Infant Dep[endant?]s mentioned in the Bill are not named...I should think it best to have them summon'd, in Order that all concern'd in the Dispute may be regularly called before the Court.

"I propose to attend Cumberland Court when the Suit is tryed; & will thank you to give me Intelligence when that may be expected, as well as of every Incident that turns on the progress of the Business...."
