JAY, JOHN, President of the Continental Congress, Chief Justice. Autograph letter signed ("John Jay") to his son Peter Augustus Jay, Bedford [New York], 29 November 1815. One page, 4to, recipient's docket on verso. A letter from Jay's retirement, discussing the possible sale of some land and other domestic matters: "...Mr. Ryerson...values the land at $20 pr. acre. He thinks the price will not continue to rise, on acct. of the emigrations from Sussex to the western country...on considering the present state of our Banks, I ha[ve] concluded to postpone selling any Land...Before Nancy left us, she doubted our having a sufficient supply of Butter for the winter--on recollecting this circumstance, I think it would do well to purchase & send a firken from N York, where it is probably less dear than here...".
