JOHNSON, ANDREW, President. Partly printed document accomplished and signed in full (twice) as Governor of Tennessee, Nashville, 12 August 1854. One page, 4to, text printed in decorative types on blue paper, headed "State of Tennessee," minor browning and a tiny hole along one fold. Johnson accomplishes and signs the commission of "John Lyon of the County of Gileson" as a Justice of the Peace, "agreeably to the Constitution and Laws of the State." Interestingly, the document was printed prior to Johnson's term as Governor and names William B. Campbell as the holder of that office. Johnson has therefore neatly lined out Campbell's name, inserted a carat, and added his own name in the blank area above.
