TAYLOR, ZACHARY, President. Partly printed document signed as President ("Z. Taylor") Washington, D.C., 2 March 1850. One page, 4to, integral blank, on fine paper watermirked "P. Valentine & Co., Suffield, Conn.," accomplished in manuscript. Directing the Secretary of State [James M. Clayton] to affix the Seal of the United States to diplomatic credentials issued to Clayton "to negotiate with Senor Don Rafael Rivas upon the subject of a Consular Convention between the United States and New Granada...." New Granada was the name for the former Spanish colony now known as Columbia.
