TEN TSUBA OF VARIOUS TYPES
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700-1850)
The iron tsuba comprising: an oval plate carved and inlaid with platns and three puppies, (Mito school, circa 1850)--8.5cm. h., 4.5mm. th.; an oval plate carved in relief with grass and a gold-accented praying mantis, (Mito school, circa 1700)--7.9cm. h., 4mm. th.; an oval plate carved with a samurai under a pine tree with gold highlights, (slight rust), (circa 1750)--8.4cm. h., 4mm th.; an oval, smooth surface plate inlaid with small shakudo and brass grape vines, (slight rust), (circa 1850)--8.8cm. h., 5.5mm. th.; a rounded, square plate with a carved rope rim, carved and inlaid with grape leaves and grass, no hitus-ana, (circa 1750)--8.6cm. h., 4.5mm. th.; a round plate with a pierced design of clouds, inlaid with a grape vine with shakudo leaves and brass tendrils, (slight rust), (circa 1700)--7.6cm. h., 4.5mm. th.; an oval plate decorated with three landscape-decorated fan panels with gold accents, (circa 1800)--7cm. h., 4mm th.; a mokko plate carved with waves and plovers, (circa 1750)--7.7cm. h., 4mm. th.; two tanto tsuba, one inlaid with a bird and plum design, the other with a cricket and dragonfly (slight rust), (circa 1800)--5.4, 5cm. h.
