TEN KOZUKA OF VARIOUS TYPES
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1600-1850)

The kozuka comprising: a shakudo plate with nanako covering the face and sides, decorated in relief with a gold straw basket filled with shakudo clams and a plum branch in shakudo and silver, signed Tobari Tomihisa and kao, (he was a student of Goto Enjo [1721-1784] and died in 1825); a gold "cat-scratched" frame with shakudo nanako plate decorated with a koto and summer screen with a gold flute in shakudo, gold and silver, (Waki Goto, circa 1750); a gold rain-file mark frame and shakudo nanako plate decorated in relief with samurai in waves and three men in a boat in shakudo, gold and silver, (worn on top), (Waki Goto, circa 1600); a polished shakudo frame, shakudo nanako plate inlaid in relief with spring flowers by a stream and a silver moon, in gold, copper, and silver (Waki Goto, circa 1800); a polished shakudo frame, shakudo nanako plate decorated in relief with a court noble, branch in hand, crane flying, inlaid in shakudo and gold, (Waki Goto, circa 1700); a polished shakudo plate with a rounded end, inlaid in high relief with gold millet branches in a copper and gold basket with a shakudo and gold knife, (Araki Tomei style, circa 1850); a polished shibuichi plate with sunken relief carving of Daikoku standing on a gold rice bale, gold hammer above, (circa 1800), signed Naotsugu and kao (unrecorded artist); a polished shibuichi plate decorated in high and sunken relief with a sage on a horse and two geese, inlaid in gold and silver, (circa 1850), inscribed Otsuriuken Nobuyuki; a shibuichi frame with copper and shakudo guri bori scroll carving and shibuichi top plate, (circa 1800); a kurikata with shakudo plate and shakudo and copper guri bori scroll carving, (circa 1850) (10)
