The two Umetada artists who made this tsuba took the design from a famous Nobuie example. Masahide, the maker of the plate (fl. circa 1825), often used the plum rebus signature. Muneyoshi often signed as living in Akashi Banshu (Harima) or Hoshi no Oka (a district of Tokyo).
