The round, iron plate with a flat, beaded rim, carved with a band of gold, nunome-covered, carved kanji, alternating with pierced, back-to-back 'B' forms, an inner band pierced with undercut scrolls and silver, nunome-covered, triple-leaf forms around the seppa-dai area carved with a scroll design, the design repeated on the reverse--8.4cm. high, 5.5mm. thick at center, 7mm. thick at edge

Lot Essay

This tsuba has been attributed to Hirado Kunishige (circa 1725). The kanji represent the twelve hours of the day beginning at the bottom center with the Ne (rat) character, proceeding clockwise to the I (boar) character.
