Naturalistically modelled of independent sections, the snake is finished with a movable jaw and inset eyes of shakudo and gold; signed under the jaw, Muneyoshi--length 6 feet 1 1/4 inches (1.86 meters); fitted wood box.

This artist may be Myochin Muneyoshi of the Tosa school, recorded as being a retainer of the Yamanouchi daimyo. He often used the go (art name) of Iroku. He is also recorded as a maker of tsuba (having studied in the Akasaka school) and for his ability to work thin iron plates.
