A THREE CASE LACQUER INRO
EDO PERIOD (18TH CENTURY)
The rectangular inro with rounded corners decorated on each side with a scene enclosed in a shaped reserve, on one an inlaid soft metal tiger balances on rocks by a river with thunder and lightning above, on the other an inlaid silver dragon writhes through the stormy clouds, rendered in gold and black takamaki-e with red and gold kirigane details, the interior cases nashiji, some chipped and flaked, fitted with miniature metal ojime and wood netsuke modelled in the form of an oni beating a drum- 2 5/8 in. (6.7 cm.) high, chips and nicks, wear, some repairs
