A LARGE LACQUER FOOTED TRAY

The shallow, rectangular tray with canted corners raised on four bracket, curved feet decorated on the interior in gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e with sprays of pine, large pine cones and shells bearing scenes from Genji monogatari, the decoration reserved on a roiro-nuri ground continued on the exterior and underisde of the tray which is further embellished with sparse nashiji- 20 3/8 x 13 3/4 x 5 1/2 in. (51.6 x 34.9 x 14 cm.), minor edge nicks and scratches, leg restoration, in fitted wood storage box signed maki-e shi Seibei "Seibei, lacquerer"
