A PAIR OF LARGE CLOISONNE ENAMEL VASES
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY)

Each large, ovoid vase with short, waisted neck and wide, flared rim decorated with birds and lush hanging wisteria vines, worked in enamels of purple, white, green and blue enamels outlined in slender silver wire above stands of iris and other small blossoms, all reserved on a midnight blue ground, the splayed foot enamelled with a wide band of formal decoration repeated around the rim, copper mounts- 30 in. (76.3 cm.) high, a few minor surface scratches (2)
